Instinct Entertainment is one of Australias most prolific and successful film and entertainment production companies. Established in 1999, Instinct is a creative collaboration founded by principals, Dean Murphy, David Redman, and Shana Levine who together with Ralph Moser have a shared vision and goal of producing the best quality innovative and entertaining stories that are made for the screen. With incredibly diverse yet complimentary experience in all areas of film and entertainment, together they have built an integrated and multi skilled production company that includes development, financing, physical production, legal services, marketing, publicity, graphic design, distribution and international sales.
The principals have varying and differing tastes and this dynamic ensures that the Company develops a wide variety of projects with the ability to cross over into a broad range of multi media platforms. This is one of Instincts major strengths and continues to grow as the company does.
To illustrate, Instinct has two exciting features in post production. Torn a US set, edge of your seat, psychological thriller, starring Damien Richardson and Costas Mandylor and the feature documentary Salute, The Peter Norman Story. Salute chronicles one of the most powerful moments in the American Civil Rights movement focusing on the 1968 Mexico Olympics. Both films are due for release in 2008.
Previously, Instinct produced the mainstream comedy Strange Bedfellows starring Paul Hogan, Michael Caton and Pete Postlethwaite. Strange Bedfellows was the highest grossing Australian film of 2004 and has sold extensively throughout the world. Instinct also produced the black comedy Muggers, starring Matt Day and Jason Barry, released in 2000; and the art house drama Till Human Voices Wake Us starring Guy Pearce and Helena Bonham Carter. Instinct released Human Voices theatrically in Australia in a joint venture with The Globe Film Co. in 2002 and sold it to Paramount Classics in the US in February 2003.
Instincts David Redman has produced the local Victorian features You and Your Stupid Mate, 2004 starring Rachel Hunter, Nathan Philips and Angus Sampson and Takeaway released through Village Roadshow 2003 starring Vince Colosimo, Stephen Curry, Rose Byrne. The partners of Instinct have also produced several other films independently.
Instinct has also expanded its services into both local and international distribution. Its local distribution arm, ID released its first feature, 'Josh Jarman' starring Marcus Graham, in November 2005.
